Agroturismo Xistos (Beja, Alentejo)

A melhor coisa de viver em Portugal é, definitivamente, não ter de ir para muito longe para conhecer sítios mágicos como este. Se estivermos cansados do caos da cidade e quisermos descansar a cabeça nem que seja só durante o fim-de-semana, basta darmos um saltinho ali (2 horinhas de distância de Lisboa) e aproveitar 2 dias de não fazer NADA.

Já no caminho para a herdade, começamos a perceber que chegámos ao Alentejo, onde só se ouve o vento a bater nas folhas secas e o som dos grilos à noite, por baixo das estrelas que raramente vemos com atenção no caos da cidade.

Nós passávamos os dias a ler à beira da piscina ou a andar de bicicleta pela herdade.

Se quiserem ver o pôr-do-sol, existe um cantinho com dois baloiços por baixo de umas das árvores da herdade (o meu sítio favorito da herdade toda), estratégicamente posicionada de forma a assistirmos a um dos melhores espectáculo da natureza. E se ficarmos muito sossegadinhos, quase que conseguimos ouvir o sol a ir-se embora.

Não se esqueçam de falar ao Doutor Rui, o dono deste sítio maravilhoso. E se tiverem sorte, pode ser que eles vos leve a dar uma volta pela herdade e vos explique como tudo funciona, e o trabalho que é manter um espaço destes. Pode ser que também vos conte a história da raposa Felismino (acho que era este o nome!) que anda sempre por lá, com quem ele tem uma relação de amor-ódio, por causa das ovelhas (o Felismino anda sempre a tentar roubá-las). É de rir a estima que o Dr. Rui tem pela raposa (que entretanto também já criou toda uma família de raposinhas), mas ao mesmo tempo, o triplo do trabalho que tem, ao tentar mantê-la afastada do rebanho. São esquemas atrás de esquemas, e ao longo do tempo tem de ir mudando os esquemas porque a raposa vai ficando sempre mais esperta.

Um fim-de-semana por mês aqui e ficava como nova.

The best thing about living in Portugal is not having to go very far to find magical places like this. When you're exhausted from the city chaos, or just want to go on a romantic getaway, even if it's only for a weekend, this is the place to go. Just a 2-hour drive from Lisbon and you're there.

When we arrived at the farm, we noticed the astonishing landscape of Alentejo, where you can only hear the wind against the trees and the sound of crickets at night, under a huge sea of stars.

This is the perfect place to relax and read a book by the pool. If you want to watch the sunset, there is a little corner with two swings under the tree (my favorite spot in the whole property), properly positioned to watch one of the best spectacles of our nature. We could almost hear the sun as it hides away.

Do not forget to talk to Dr. Rui, the owner of this wonderful place. If you're lucky, he may take you on a tour through the farm and explain how everything works. He may also tell you the story of a fox named Felismino (I think that was his name!), with whom he has a love-hate relationship, because of his flock (Felismino is always trying to steal one of his sheep).

It's kind of funny to see the admiration that Dr. Rui has for Felismino (who lives there now and has a wife and babies), but at the same time, the extra work he has to do, to keep the fox away from the flock. Dr. Rui makes schemes after schemes to keep his sheep safe, and he has to keep changing the schemes because the fox is always getting smarter and finding a way to get to the flock (poor sheep).

One weekend a month here and I don’t think I would need as much therapy.
